  9. It can take from 4 to 7 years for an English language learner to acquire sufficient language skills to be fully integrated into the mainstream without a negative impact.

  10. We believe that measuring the progress of English language learners must take into account raw TAKS scores and on-time graduation rates as well as TAKS scale scores.

  11. Exploratory Languages This course is a non-sequential foreign language course used to teach the ELA TEKS in Spanish.

  13. Independent Study in English: American Studies The purpose of this course is to prepare our recent immigrant students for success on the social studies portion of the TAKS. We believe that this course will also prepare our students for their American History and Government classes.

  22. ESL CLUB ESL teachers sponsor a club for ESL students so that they are included in the social activities of the school.

  23. WHY JOIN THE ESL CLUB? TO DEVELOP LEADERSHIP TO HAVE FUN TO HELP THE COMMUNITY TO HANG-OUT WITH FRIENDS AND MEET NEW PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR NEW SCHOOL

  26. WHY DID WE NEED A CLUB? We needed representation in the mainstream. We needed to have a voice. We wanted to be involved. We wanted to be a useful part of the whole. We wanted to belong to the team. We wanted to offer our time, talents, and capabilities to each other and to others in need.
