The DHS Announcement: An Overview • DHS has issued a Call for Comment (mechanism highlighted) • All “properly formatted” comments will be posted for review • Affirmed the need for a separate certification mechanism for small businesses (as defined by the SBA) • Some adjustment to the SBA definition is under consideration • This decision will impact ~7.6 million businesses • DHS is proposing two certification options: 1st and 3rd Party • DHS is open to other mechanisms that are as now undefined • DHS is discussing ways of recognizing businesses that conform to one of the recommended options • DHS is supporting the development by private sector organizations, including schools, of tools that might be useful to this process. • ISO guidelines on certification will prevail • For more information, consult: http://tinyurl.com/2utpvee
