Emergency response action The Albanian Government declared immediately the area in and around the explosion site “DISASTER ZONE” An INTER MINISTERIAL COMMITTEE was set up to manage the overall emergency situation, chaired by the former Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Oketa, assisted by 8 Ministers of the Cabinet

    3. On site emergency response operational forces Armed Forces (specialized teams, S&R, EOD teams etc) Ambulance service & medical personnel mobilized in the hospitals of Tirana and Durres State Police forces Fire, rescue and emergency teams Local government authorities

    4. Damages: figures and facts 25 dead people 300 injured Approx. 10 000 inhabitants affected 4000 inhabitants homeless 678 evacuees in state-owned residencies Approx. 4000 buildings, mostly houses, destroyed and damaged.

    5. Houses destroyed & heavily damaged National Habitat Body reports: Total amount of damage in houses: 1.9 billion lek

    6. Public infrastructure damages All data are approximate and some of them are subject to reassessment Ministry of Education and Science reports: Total amount of damage in schools: 78 mln lek (in Tirana region 47 mln, in Durrës reg. 31 mln)

    7. Public infrastructure damages Ministry of Health reports: Total amount of damage: 11 mln lek consisting of: Health care facilities: 6.5 mln lek Medical items: 2 mln lek Equipment 2.5 mln lek

    8. Public infrastructure damages Ministry of Public Works, Transport & Telecommunication reports: Total amount of damage: 593 mln lek consisting of: Water supply system: 180 mln lek Sewerage & canalization network:150 mln lek Rural roads: 63 mln lek Preparative costs for reconstruction process: 200 mln lek

    9. Ministry of Environment,Forestry and Water Managementreports: Costs for forest rehabilitation: 4.5 mln lek Equipment: 722 000 Euros Costs for analysis: 14 mln lek

    10. Albanian Electro-Energetic Corporation (KESH)reports: Total amount of damage: 27 mln lek

    11. Relief, mitigation and financialsupport of the Government 48 mln lek allocated to the families of the victims 110 mln lek allocated to the families whose houses have been destroyed & damaged 1.6 mln (approx) for furniture 1.9 billion lek will be allocated for reconstruction purposes

    12. International assistance&support Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France Italy, Germany, Greece, Kosova, Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, USAID, IFRC, EADRCC, EU – MIC, UN – OCHA, KFOR etc. Blood packages, medical items&equipment relief goods, tents, food, clothing, EOD teams and equipment, financial aid etc.

    13. Needs for recovery, rehabilitationand capacity building Support to line Ministries and local government authorities projects and central institutions and agencies Support to rapid emergency management capabilities and resources: fire and rescue teams, ambulance service etc.
