  1. Neutering A Cat Imagine your newly adopted kitten having a litter of their own. Sounds strange and weird, isn’t it? Thus, to stop unwanted pregnancies from occurring, cat neutering is done. Vets believe that neutering your cat should ideally take place once your kitten is 16 weeks old. Furthermore, cat neutering is something that most vets believe should take place, but that decision solely lies on the cat parent. What is Cat Neutering? To the individuals and recent cat parents, neutering is simply a routine process that involves the removal of your feline’s sexual reproductive organs. While the process of neutering in female cats is called ‘spaying’, for the male cats this procedure is termed as ‘castration’. Spaying is the removal of ovaries and uterus, although in some cases it’s just the ovaries. On the other hand, castration is the removal of the testicles and is a much simpler process as compared to spaying. Everything has its advantages and disadvantages and so does neutering a cat. Let us take a look at the pros and cons of cat neutering before you make a call. Cat Neutering – The Pros The positive sides of neutering a cat are as follows: Removes Pregnancy Risk – Overpopulation of pets is a serious and ongoing concern. Not only does it burden the one having the female cat with more litters, but it also pinches your pocket. Furthermore, the trouble of finding homes for the litter is upon you. Hence, all of this can be negated if neutering takes place. Makes a Cat Cleaner and Calmer – The benefit of neutering your cat can also result in a much cleaner and calmer feline. A neutered cat will no longer feel the need to retort to seduction. He will cease to mark his territory and urinate all over the house or yard. This will, in turn, lead to a cleaner home. Keeps the Cat Healthier – Arguably the biggest positive with neutering your cat is that your feline will be prone to fewer health problems. With the removal of the testicles, testicular cancer will no longer remain a cause for concern and at the same time, the risk of prostate will diminish.

  2. Cat Neutering – The Cons The negative sides of neutering a cat are as follows: Results in Sterilization - Cat neutering results in feline sterilization. This means your feline will no longer be in the position to reproduce. Change in Appearance – Neutering your cat will also result in him looking different. Without his testicles, your feline will certainly have a change in appearance. Furthermore, if you believe this will serve as a cosmetic issue, it is advised to visit a vet to discuss testicular implants. Can Cause Weight Gain – In most case, neutering of a cat can lead to weight gain. This is because the strong mating desire can consume a buttload of energy. Thus, with lack of energy, your cat won’t be able to burn off much of the calories consumed leading to weight gain. Most cat parents seek professional help regarding neutering of their cat. Therefore, you can visit your vet if you have mixed thoughts. After all, it is a big step and what better way than to seek your vet’s advice.
