  3. Western Australian School of Mines • Now on three Campuses: • Kalgoorlie • Perth and • Miri • Over 2,000 students, over 200 staff, over $50 million budget • Higher education is increasingly global and about quality, NOT location Curtin University Overview

  4. Infrastructure Achievements The Agricola College redevelopment project plans a state of the art 180 room student accommodation. Agricola College first opened by Laurence Brodie-Hall in 1971 for 50 students. Since expanded to around 160 student places. This project – the first ever rebuild - incorporates collaboration with Goldfields Institute of Technology and will retain 40 existing rooms (220 bed provision by 2017). With a life of 35 years will require replacing in 2052 Curtin University Overview

Significant Changes • Student exchange (e.g. Study Abroad) • Growth in postgraduate coursework numbers (Graduate Diploma and Masters) • Move to research-intensive (more PhDs) – nine graduated in past 3 years from Kalgoorlie – but we work across 3 campuses (Kalgoorlie, Perth and Miri) Curtin University Overview

  7. Growing Pains • Further redevelopment on the Campus – new student learning centre, laboratories and teaching spaces. New staff and new ways of working (e.g. shared real-time lectures with Whyalla) Curtin University Overview

What remains the same • Experiential learning and regional/remote living (mining takes us the geology!) • The availability of highly-skilled and locally-trained (or training) workforce – please help us engage these students in relevant work experience (they need it to graduate!)
