  2. The two Drilling Platforms in mention were built in the Corrientes area of Pluspetrol Block 8 in the northern jungle of Peru. The Corrientes area is basically a low lying swampy terrain with a 2 to 3 meter (in some cases deeper) cap of vegetation covering the base soil. In the case of Platform 1017, a 400 meter access road was constructed from the main trunk road over the swamp and 20,000 sq mts of trees cleared for the actual location. Once the trees were cleared, we had a 3 to 3.5 meter vegetal cap covering the base with the water table right at the surface as shown in some of the accompanying photos.  For the access, a 30 meter swathe was cut through the trees. All cut the trunks and branches were then laid in a 10 mt wide path down the center of the clearing which was then covered with hauled in sand to a depth of approximately 80cms over the logs.  The “critical area” or Rig platform was built on 229 ten inch concrete filled piles, which were then tied together with series of 8” I beams and covered with a 40cm thick concrete slab.

  3. The piles were driven with a Delmag 5 diesel hammer to refusal. Refusal was between 15 and 20 meters. The location is designed to drill three separate wells and was built with three 2.5mt x 2.5 mt Cellars, all the necessary drains and accesses for the Submergible Pump cables. To complete the access road and location, 32,980 cubic meters of black sand were hauled in from a nearby sandpit. The mud and chemical warehouses were built from a mix of on site logs and sawn lumber. A 30mt x 30mt roofed reserve pit was also constructed from on site and sawn lumber. Once finished, it was then roofed and lined with Geomembrane.  To date, Corpesa has constructed several of these piled locations with 1017 being the first to have the piles filled with concrete. Reason for the concrete fill was due to the size of the Drilling Rig to be used. 1017 was to be drilled with a National 1320 versus a lighter National 80B Rig used on 1012 and other previous platforms.
