  2. A review of Early Help was undertaken to: Understand where we are with the Early Help roll-out Involve all Board Members and practitioners Present information on current progress Use a case audit exercise to baseline development Understand feedback from parents, children and young people

  3. Early Help - Progress so far All agencies signed up to the Early Help strategy Threshold Tool developed and distributed Early Help team set up Initial DAF training events completed Development work for HolistiX

  4. Early Help -feedback from audits Still at an early stage in development Supervision and impact on practice unclear and inconsistent More focus on children and challenge for parents needed Challenge of maintaining professional involvement when case de-escalated Variable level of understanding and engagement with Early Help

  5. Early Help - feedback from parents When it worked well the outcomes were very good Appreciative of the support and approach Sometimes agencies didn’t look joined up De-escalation process not clear Access to services - particularly for men

Early Help - views from young people Valued counselling services but would appreciate more choice Bullying is a major issue that requires more sensitive approach Difficulties accessing support for mental health issues See young people as a resource rather than a problem Ineffectiveness of Sexual Relationship Education programmes in school

Early Help - priorities for action A clear commitment to Early Help by all agencies Proactive engagement with young people and families All agencies to confirm how they are providing Early Help training All agencies to confirm policies and monitoring of supervision Create a directory that is accessible and up to date De-escalation policy to be agreed by the DSCB

  8. Early Help - next steps Develop the DAF and Threshold Tools Formation of the Children’s Alliance Early Help training for schools and voluntary organisations Roll out of the HolistiX system supported by e-learning Closely monitor progress
