Justification for Joint Interventions • Greater knowledge of risk factors in target groups. • TB-control interventions should be part of the comprehensive care provided to people living with HIV/AIDS. • Prevent TB from developing. • Diagnose TB and treat it early. • Development of joint strategies that explore synergies and program strengths. • Community-mobilization strategies. • Observed treatment strategies (DOTS). General Objective • To speed up an effective joint response from TB and HIV/AIDS Programs to the tuberculosis epidemic associated with HIV in the Americas, by facilitating • information exchange and • experiences among Programs.   6. Specific Objectives • To present the final version of the documents, Building Blocks: Comprehensive-Care Guide for People Living with TB/HIV Co-Infection in Latin America and the Caribbean; and to receive feedback on it. • To discuss the development of policies on TB/HIV at the national and Regional levels. • To evaluate and make recommendations on collaboration strategies between TB Programs and HIV/AIDS Programs, at the country level.   7. Expected Results • To have reviewed, improved and approved the proposed final version of the document Building Blocks: Comprehensive-Care Guide for People Living with TB/HIV Co-Infection in Latin America and the Caribbean. • To have discussed proposals for Regional adaptation of the document Guidelines for Implementing Collaborative TB and HIV Programme Activities(WHO/ CDS/ TB/ 2003.319), with a view to future implementation.
