Goals •To inspire and motivate you to earn an Associate Degree and transfer to a 4-year university and beyond: BA, MA, PhD, Ed.D. •To inform you of the transfer admission requirements to UC, CSU, UOP & others •To reinforce the need to identify your career and academic major, and to complete appropriate major preparation courses •To foster communications with a counselor and develop a Student Education Plan (SEP) •To identify resources that can help you.

CSU TRANSFER ADMISSION: OPTION 3 @ JUNIOR LEVEL (also referred to as Upper Division Transfer) • Achievement of 2.0 grade point average or better (in order to be competitive at impacted campuses, students must earn a higher GPA) • Completion of 60 or more CSU transferable semester units (spring before fall transfer) • of the 60 transferable semester units, you must complete 30 transferable semester units with a “C” or better in each course. These courses may be chosen from the CSU General Education Pattern or IGETC CSU Version; AND

  6. CSU TRANSFER ADMISSION: (OPTION 3 @ JUNIOR or Upper Division LEVEL), cont. • You must complete with a “C” or better the “Golden Four” : 1. Communication Studies 1A 2. English 1A 3. Comm. Studies 5, English 1B or English 1D, or Philosophy 30 4. Mathematics 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 12, 13, 17A, 20, 22, 38A 38B, 39 Psychology 2 The math course must have as its prerequisite intermediate algebra or above. Beginning Summer 2012, students wishing to take any of these courses must score a Level 5 or higher on the college assessment test or have taken and earned a “C” grade or higher in the prerequisite course listed on the course description in the college catalog.

  7. CSU General Education Pattern Students who complete the CSU GE pattern will have only 9 units of upper division GE units remaining after transferring. California State University General Education Pattern

  9. CSU Major Prep Articulation Agreement - sample Students who complete specified major prep courses are well prepared to enroll in upper division major courses after they transfer.

CSU Campuses & Programs Impacted at the Upper Division Level • Many CSU Campuses are impacted at the Upper Division Transfer level for Fall 2014 admission. • Supplementary Admission Criteria will be used to make admission decisions: Overall gpa, major pre-reqs. completed, gpa in the major, extra-curricular activities, work, and by geographical region. http://www.calstate.edu/AR/impactioninfo.shtml

  11. CSU Gives Priority Admission to Transfer Students in their Region CSU Stanislaus and Sacramento State University will give priority admission to students who live in our area. New: STEM Program starting with Stanislaus. Contact CTC for more information and services.

  17. UC TRANSFER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS @ the JR. LEVEL A. Complete 60 semester units of transferable college credit with a strong grade point average, at least a 2.80 or higher B. Complete a seven course pattern that includes: • Two transferable college courses in English Composition • (Eng 1A & Eng 1B or Eng 1D); and 2. One transferable college course in Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning: Math 1, 2, 3, 4, 12, 13, 20, 22, 38A/B, 39, Psychology 2

  19. The Personal Statement (1,000 words) Prompt #1 (transfers) What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field – such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities – and what you have gained from your involvement. Prompt #2 (all) Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

  21. UCArticulation Agreement by Major-sample- In general, UC encourages completion of major prep courses as a priority over completion of general ed courses.

IGETC • IGETC is a GE pattern acceptable for meeting GE req’mts at all UC’s as well as CSU’s, with a few minor differences. •IGETC is not recommended for certain majors like engineering and the hard sciences.   24. UC Online TAG FormSubmit Sept. 1-30th for Fall 2014 • Guarantees admission, provided certain requirements are met. On July 1st , the requirements for 2014 TAGs will be posted. • Student creates acct., inputs classes (SEP) on transfer admission planner, and when ready to transfer, submits information regarding his/her qualifications and major. • Delta counselors monitor TAG process and provide feedback to student via emails.

  30. PACIFIC Transfer Admission Requirements • Must earn at least a 3.0 in transferable college coursework • 3.2 for guaranteed admission • Complete at least 60 transferable semester units with a mix of academic courses

University of the PacificTransfer Admission Agreement (TAA) • A TAA with Pacific will guarantee you admission in your choice of major and term. • The TAA is not available in some majors. • See your counselor to develop a TAA. • Check out ROAR for transferable classes. • Deadline: January 15th prior to fall transfer. Out-of-State Colleges • Many Out-of-State colleges and universities are now recruiting aggressively for California college students. • Sometimes, the admission requirements are not as difficult. • Scholarships, like the WUE, make it possible to attend an out-of-state college for about what it would cost to attend a UC. • You can increase your college options if you start researching early!

  34. Financial Aid Application Dates • Jan 1-Feb 15: The BEST time to apply for upcoming school year. • Mar. 2nd: Deadline for most types of aid, including Cal Grants • Help with completing the FAFSA is available in the eServices Lab, DeRicco Student Svcs. Bldg 1st floor.

  36. Cal Grants help students pay tuition fees when they transfer to a 4-yr college. CC students awarded a Cal Grant place their awards on reserve status. Cal Grant B is the same as A, except they receive an additional stipend at CC. They should not use this at the CC for more than 2 years. Both grants can be activated upon transfer to 4-yr. college New recipient award amounts for 2011-2012 Cal Grant A & B: CSU: $$5,970 UC: $12,192 Pacific/Private U: $9,223 Cal Grant B living stipend: $1,473 @ CC and increases to incl. tuition & fee assistance after transfer to a 4 yr. college. UOP Cal Grant Matching Program can double the size of your award. Cal Grant A & B

Cal Grant GPA Verification Form • The FAFSA and the GPA verification form is essential for Cal Grant consideration. • Delta sends your GPA verification form electronically if you have completed 24 units or more at SJDC. • If you’re a first year student, best to submit verification form with high school GPA.   38. Counseling & Special Services The Counseling Faculty provide a wide array of services, some of which include: Personal, academic, transfer, and career counseling. Transfer Admission Guarantees & Agreements (TAG-TAA). Student Education Plans (SEP), which outline the courses a student needs in order to graduate & transfer. Link to: SJ Delta Counseling
