  1. VPUA BUSAC Report #3 By Me

  2. OUSA • Met in Toronto to discuss direction for Ancillary Fees paper. • Waiting on information for OUSA in order to begin to write. • Broken down into 3 key areas: Government & University Funding, Student Control & Transparency & Accountability.

  3. Ancillary Fee Principles • Transparency & Accountability • Students should not feel pressure to support the introduction of fees as an effort to maintain the quality of their education. • Government & University Funding • The administration of all compulsory fees must be accountable and transparent. • Student Control • All of the costs borne by students for academic instruction should be paid for through current tuition fees, not additional compulsory ancillary fees.

  4. CASA • Mental Health Sub-Committee Meetings • Direction on 3 mental health priorities for the year • Attached documents outline all priorities (I am working with mental health) • Drew provided background arguments for specific priorities.

  5. CASA Changes • Being mapped out right now. • Big project taken on by specific CASA schools (us included). • Working on putting together a presentation for CASA at the Lobby Conference in November. • Highly detailed… key point is that these changes will make CASA much more efficient in the future. • Important that all schools have input.

  6. Senate • Governance Committee passed request for President to disband Program Review Committee. • Idea is to construct their own Review Committee as it pertains to academic review. • Senate/Brock Administration will be an ongoing discussion throughout the year… my role will always be to represent the student voice and the POV I will take is always going to be “what’s best for students”.

  7. Board • Joint Senate-Board Committee Meeting happened this summer. • Idea is to understand each other better… (Board = finances; Senate = education). • Sub-committee formed to restructure meetings to better understand each other. • Me = Board and Senate representative.

  8. Advocacy • Restructuring Advocacy part of website. • Assembled A-Team! • Now… campaign planning/mapping out 1st semester (on Thursday). • Key campaigns: Fall Reading Week, Wellness Week, Debt Campaign, Good Neighbour Campaign). • Organic waste bin campaign (attached )

  9. Off Campus Housing Committee • Comprised of: Mayor, City Councilors, NRP, Niagara Falls Fire Department, local resident representatives, Curtis Gadula, etc. • Some issues arose with specific student houses.

  10. Other Things • Something called Orientation Week. • It was great. • Liv, Jimmy, VPSS team = decent.

  11. BUSAC Committee Meetings • Academic Affairs: this Friday @ 10am in the BUSU Board Room. • External Affairs: Friday, September 20th 11am in the BUSU Board Room. • Schedules for both semesters sent out. • Agendas to follow.  • AAC: if we meet more than once, we’ll break the all-time BUSAC Record!!!

  12. Balancing Act • Ancillary Fees paper (this will take up a lot of my time). • CASA by-law updates. • Senate-Board Joint Committee changes. • UPC follow-up, Senate Governance Program Review changes. • Campaign planning (OUSA campaigns, CASA campaigns, Brock specific campaigns, Fall Reading Week, Wellness Week). • Advocacy Internship Team orientation. • Advocacy website changes. • Planning for OUSA on campus/ Provincial mental health meeting. • Shinerama baseball tournament. • BUSAC Committee Meetings begins this week.

  13. New Format  • This will be my last “formal” power point BUSAC presentation. • Will still send out highly detailed power point presentation before BUSAC meetings. • However, will present in different format. • 

  14. Important • I don’t want to waste your time with talking about my report forever. • If I was unclear with something/ if you want more information just ask/stop by my office.
