  1. Yes – PRP Training is Also for Dentists Our mission here at the Advanced Regenerative Medicine Institute is to provide top-notch training to any clinicians looking to learn how to safely and effectively perform regenerative medicine procedures. We teach both stem cell and PRP therapies for sports, orthopedic, and aesthetic medicine. Some of the doctors we train utilize PRP therapy to treat people suffering from osteoarthritis, sports injuries, and other orthopedic issues. Others are aesthetic physicians who offer PRP therapy as an alternative for facial rejuvenation and hair loss. But did you know that PRP therapy is appropriate for some dental procedures as well? Long before doctors saw PRP therapy as a way to treat musculoskeletal injuries, surgeons were using it to promote wound healing following surgical procedures. It turns out that PRP therapy offers the same benefit following oral surgery. Promoting Faster Healing Oral surgery can result in some very unpleasant experiences during recovery. For both patient comfort and overall good health, it helps when the body heals itself as quickly as possible. PRP therapy is designed to promote that healing. Yahoo! Medicine recently reported on an Atlanta dentist who utilizes PRP for this very reason. PRP therapy is just one of the many exciting new techniques this dentist is relying on to give his patients the best possible care. Though we don’t know him personally, what is described in the Yahoo! Medicine article leads us to believe that his procedure is similar to what we teach, if not identical.

  2. In order to promote healing, the dentist extracts blood from the patient prior to surgery. That blood is spun in a centrifuge to isolate its plasma and platelets. The resulting material is injected at the site of the surgery to promote faster healing of the resulting wound. Understand that this is not a radical treatment by any stretch of the imagination. Again, surgeons have looked to PRP injections for their wound healing capabilities for decades. This is a procedure with a long history of safety and efficacy behind it. PRP for Other Purposes We teach doctors how to use PRP therapy for a variety of purposes. For example, one of the most common uses of PRP therapy in 2019 is to treat the chronic pain of osteoarthritis. We teach a procedure nearly identical to what the Atlanta dentist utilizes. We teach our students the proper way to extract patient blood, prepare it in a centrifuge, and inject it into the site of injury. The same healing properties that make for faster and more thorough wound healing also help to relieve osteoarthritis pain. Note that there is one significant difference between an osteoarthritis treatment and PRP injections for wound healing: locating the injection site. Identifying an injection site following surgery is rather straightforward. It is not so easy when treating orthopedic issues. Therefore, we recommend the use of medical imaging to help find the optimal location for injections. Register for Your Training We are thrilled whenever we hear stories of doctors successfully utilizing stem cell or PRP therapies. We do what we do because we strongly believe in the future and potential of regenerative medicine. To that end, we would love to introduce you to regenerative medicine as a means of expanding your practice. The Advanced Regenerative Medicine Institute conducts numerous training sessions throughout the year, both here in Salt Lake City and at other locations. We invite you to register for the next weekend session at the location nearest to you. If you would like to learn more about regenerative medicine or our training weekends, please do not hesitate to contact us.
