  2. Signs and Symptoms A fever is often the first sign of the disease, followed by a sore throat and sometimes a lack of appetite. An illness that causes sores in the mouth, on the hands or feet, and sometimes the buttocks and legs. Can be painful.

  3. What causes this disease? Is caused by a virus called enterovirus. Enterovirus- Lives in the intestine of human and animals, gets carried through contaminated food and objects. It can get spread through coughing and sneezing. Can catch is through infected stool, such as when you change a diaper and the child gets stool on his or her hands then touches an object that other children put in there mouths. Often this disease breaks out into a community.

  4. Is there another name for this disease? No, but some people get this disease mixed up with foot-mouth disease, which is also called hoof-mouth disease.

  5. Is it contagious? Yes, it’s called by different viruses. Infants and children 5 years old and younger are most likely to get this disease but adults and older kids can get it also.

  6. Incubation Period It usually takes 3-6 days for a person to get symptoms of this disease, after being exposed to the virus.

  7. How to treat disease There is no specific treatment for hand, foot and mouth disease. However, some things can be done to relieve symptoms, such as Take over-the-counter medications to relieve pain and fever. Use mouthwashes or sprays to help numb any mouth pain. Contact your Doctor.

  8. How to prevent this disease There’s no vaccine to prevent you from getting this disease. Wash hands with soap and water, especially after changing a diaper, and/or using the toilet. Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and soiled items, such as toys.
