  1. Nat Turners rebellion Born October second 1800 People overheard Nat talking about true events that happened before he was born and the fact that he was very intelligent made his people believe that he was a prophet for some great purpose. Nat Turner learned to read and write at an early age and he quickly became veryreligious

  2. Nat Turners rebellion • By early 1882 Turner was convinced that he was sent down to earth for an almighty purpose like a prophet of sorts • Beginning in February 1831, Turner came to believe that certain atmospheric conditions were to be interpreted as a sign that he should begin preparing for a rebellion against the slave owners.

  3. Nat Turners rebellion • On February 2, 1831, a solar eclipse was seen in Virginia • Turner saw this as a black mans hand reaching over the sun and he took this as his sign to start the rebellion • The attack was planned for July fourth but then on august 13th another eclipse occurred • One week later on August 21st the rebellion began

  4. Nat Turner rebelion • Turner had about 70 enslaved and free African Americans. • One week before the day of the rebellion there was an atmospheric disturbance which made the sun appear blue • Nat Turner and his slaves traveled from house to house freeing every slave killing every white man.

  5. Nat Turner rebelion • The local militia and marines fought against the rebellion crushing them • The militia had nearly twice the amount of people that the rebellion had even after they recruited the people they freed • There were even two military ships the USS Natchez and Warren • Even that did not stop the rebellion from leaving its mark with the large number of people they freed and killed
