Many incidents are reported almost daily where the pets had eaten lilies, swallowed chocolates or unwanted items and later suffered from convulsions and poisoning. There could be many items in your household that can cause poisoning in pets and thus must be chucked off immediately if you have them. 10 Poisonous Items for Dogs and Cats 1.Batteries Batteries are hazardous to cats and dogs. If any of your pet has chewed or swallowed the battery or its content, you need to call the emergency services immediately. Battery has alkaline and acidic contents that can cause ulcers and blisters in pet’s tissues. So, beware and keep your pet strictly away from them. So, stay alert. 3.Cleaners And Detergents Bleach, drain cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners, bleach, detergents to wash clothes, fabric softeners - all of these products cause mouth, esophagus and gastrointestinal ulcers in dogs and cats when ingested. Keep a track where your pet wonders and remove these items from his sight. Better to hide them inside the closets which they cannot access. 4.Lilies Easter lilies, tiger lily, Japanese show lily and many other varieties are highly toxic to cats and dogs. Though cats are more severely affected by lilies, some species of lilies can also cause poisoning in dogs as well. They alter the heart rhythm eventually causing death in pets. 5.Gasoline And Kerosene All of these fluids can damage the heart and kidneys in dogs. They also cause skin and eye irritation as well as indigestion in pets. Talk to your vet immediately if the pets have ingested any of these two fluids. 6.Fertilizers And Rodenticides Garden materials like fertilizers and rodenticides contain harmful chemicals that cause hemorrhaging and blood clotting issues in pets. Therefore, keep the pets away from treated wet lawns. 7.Grapes, Raisins and Nuts These dry fruits are known to cause kidney dysfunction in pets. Even a handful amount can cause severe damage to the kidneys.

Some of which include – diarrhea, seizures and vomiting. It may also lead to liver failure when taken in high quantity. So, no sago palm for your garden if you have a pet at home. 10.Tobacco The toxicity level of nicotine is extremely high for dogs and cats. A cigarette or a tobacco plant can cause tremors, vomiting, collapse or even death. If you are a smoker, you should stop it immediately. It will be good for your as well as your pet’s health. Eliminate the habit of smoking. It will eventually eliminate cigarette from your house and your pet will be safe.
