Context At the VMBSG 2012 Conference, delegates identified and emphasised the need for an ongoing programs that assists the development of the new wave of talent that has grown from newly appointed municipal building surveyors and the re-establishment of cadetships. In addition to this, existing industry professionals need programs that will support the learning and development of the new talent. Gaps identified at the Conference included: • Attraction and retention of talent and skills within the municipal building control industry • Complement the RDV/VBA ‘Internship Program’ by adding leadership competencies and skills • Enhance the mentoring / coaching of “new” talent within existing programs and more broadly across the local government sector At the VMBSG 2013 Conference, delegates identified the need for: • "Higher level managements skills i.e. courses“ • "Higher priority of building control services in Council“ • "Recognised as a professional unit that provides leadership, credibility and integrity to Council's organisation" • “Recognised for professional leadership and accountability through education and continued development"

Key Features of the Programs • Valuable information on leadership with tie back to work practices which will be run as activities to help inform our future leadership style. • Focused on self and style, work relationships both internally and externally • Focus on career building and nurturing – specific retention focus of industry skills in local government • Interactive development sessions, high participation and shared facilitation approach

Program Details Date: Friday, 27 June 2014 Duration: 1 day – 9:00am to 4:30pm (Registrations and Refreshments at 8:45am) Maximum Participants: 14 Program Location: Brimbank City Council 'Conference Room' 704B Old Calder Hwy Keilor Cost: VMBSG members $330; Non-Members $495 Facilitators: Travis Tremayne of Possibilitty who will be joined by Stephen Hempel for the work practices sessions.
