  2. About It • A.K.A. Electron Beam Machining • This technology was developed by Arcam AB in Sweden • Type of rapid prototyping • The EBM machine reads data from a 3D CAD model and lays down layers of powdered material. So it builds up the model. These layers are fused together using a computer controlled electron beam • Done in a vacuum

  3. In the Real World Market • Titanium alloys are widely used with this technology which makes it a good choice for the medical implant market • Materials that can be used for parts built using this technology include metals, non-metals, ceramics, and composites

  4. Yays and Nays • You can make very small and accurate cuts • Drill holes close to few nanometers • Since EBM requires a vacuum in which to operate, the size of the work piece is limited. So therefore this is the main limitation on the process • Parts built with this technology are fully solid, void-free, extremely strong, and can withstand high temperatures
