  2. Who can claim? • care for a person for at least 35 hours per week • person must receive qualifying benefit • satisfy the earning rule - £95 • 16 or over • ordinarily resident and present • not a full time student • not subject to immigration control

  3. How much? Basic Rate £53.10 Adult dependent £31.70 Pre April 2003 Child Dependent 1st child £8.20 2nd child £11.35

  4. Breaks in caring After 26 weeks • four weeks every 26 weeks Hospital • Up to 12 weeks • Person must continue to receive DLA/AA

  5. Losing CA Person requiring care: • stops getting qualifying benefit • goes into care permanently • does not require further care • dies (continues for 8 weeks) Person caring must continue to meet all qualifying conditions

  6. Overlapping benefits • State Retirement Pension • Incapacity Benefit/ESA(C) • Severe Disablement Allowance • Widows Pension • Widowed Parent’s Allowance • Bereavement benefits • JSA (C) • Maternity Allowance
