  1. 14 Habits of Highly Effective Disciples Lesson 1: BIBLE STUDY

  2. Quick Read We will not become strong and mature disciples accidentally. One of the necessary ingredients in the recipe for spiritual growth is the knowledge and direction gained through the study of the Bible. (pg. 17)

  3. Psalm 119:9-16 9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.10I seek you with all my heart;do not let me stray from your commands.11I have hidden your word in my heartthat I might not sin against you.12Praise be to you, O Lord;teach me your decrees.13With my lips I recountall the laws that come from your mouth.14I rejoice in following your statutesas one rejoices in great riches.15I meditate on your preceptsand consider your ways.16I delight in your decrees;I will not neglect your word.

  4. Psalm 119: Fast Facts • Psalm 119 is an acrostic • Each division begins with a different letter of the Jewish alphabet • Activity- • Psalm 119 is the longest division/chapter in the Bible • Psalm 119 consists of 176 verses that express the psalmist’s love for God’s Word • A specific or indirect reference to God’s Word is made throughout these verses (176+ references!) • Psalm 119 is the first division/chapter that essentially opens the second half of the Bible • Psalm 118 is the middle of the Bible

  5. Question How Much Is God’s Word WORTH To Me?

  6. If I Love God… …I Will Love His Word • If I Love His Word… …I Will Study His Word • If I Study His Word… …I Will Live By His Word • If I Live By His Word… …I Will Memorize His Word Where do I fall in this process?!?!?!

  7. Helpful Attitudes For Bible Study What kind of person makes a good Bible student? Here are some attitudes to emulate to assist you in becoming a good student of God’s Word: • Spiritually hungry – Jesus said we are blessed if we hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matthew 5:6). • Receptive to God’s truth – we need to be open-minded and yielded in our spirit to hear God’s truth fully. • Devoted – studying the Bible will require time and effort. It is not easy. • Obedient – when God reveals truth to us, we need to implement it right away. • Disciplined – making time for study will require strong will and diligence to the process of learning. It is like learning any other difficult skill. However, just like a trained pianist is “free” to play the piano, we can also be “free” to live the life God has planned for us.
