  1. Welcome to Civics! Mrs. Ashley Adkins

  2. What will we learn about? • Important historical documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution • The 3 branches of government and how they affect our lives • Voting and elections, focusing on the 2008 Presidential race • The American court and legal system

  3. Let’s Be Nice! • Show respect to your classmates and your teacher • Bring all materials to class every day • No food, candy, drinks, iPods/CD players or cell phones allowed. Phones will be turned in to the main office if they become a problem. • Follow the school dress code at all times

  4. Taking a break… • Don’t abuse restroom privileges by wandering the halls, losing the pass, etc. • Passes will be used for restroom, phone, locker visits, or any other requests to leave the classroom

  5. Make-Up Work • It is your responsibility to get all make-up assignments. • Make up all missed work in 5 days or you will receive a zero. • Alternate arrangements can be made for extended leave.

  6. Supplies – Needed Daily! • 1 ½” – 3 ring binder with paper • Dividers (if desired) • You can organize by chapter or by notes, classwork, etc. • Pen or Pencil

  7. Grading Policy • I will be following Dorman’s designated grading scale as per the student handbook and my grading policy is as follows: • Tests and Projects.… 35% • Class work…………... 30% • Quizzes…………… …20% • Journal Entries/ Notebook check……15%

  8. PET PEEVES!!!! • DON’Tleave your stuff in my room – My shelves, under-desk baskets and tables are NOT your locker • DON’T talk while others are talking – it’s rude • DO bring a good attitude to class – we’ll have a lot more fun that way!! • DO bring your notebook and pencil everyday!

  9. About Me • I attended Hillcrest High School and then Furman University • I’m married with 2 kids • I have 3 Chihuahuas as pets • I live in Simpsonville
