Pain Points* Need the right people in the room Different strokes for different folks (or states) The “ain’t getting enough good stuff” blues Professional Development “Actionable” Information (research, data, materials, etc.) Islands of excellence * Realizing all experiences are not equal, some of you may have no complaints, everything’s honky doory, a “well oiled machine” or some variation thereof.

FY14 Focus Areas Extend membership to workforcerelated state customers and user groups; Increase K-12 representation to support new ACT solutions including ACT Aspire; Provide enhanced professional development and networking opportunities for state organization members; Create improved communications channels to provide – and receive – critical information regarding ACT solutions and services as well as information regarding opportunities that may exist within given states; and Educate, provide updates and alerts, and when necessary mobilize state organization members to advocate and promote ACT solutions as the local grassroots level.

FY14 Focus Areas Extend membership to workforce related state customers and user groups; Increase K-12 representation to support new ACT solutions including ACT Aspire; Provide enhanced professional development and networking opportunities for state organization members; Provide state and regional opportunities to share information and learn from other state organization members about pertinent education and workforce issues Create opportunities to engage ACT national staff on issues relevant to states and local education and workforce agencies Provide opportunities to review ACT policy research and policy statements to ensure local and state issues are adequately addressed Create improved communications channels to provide – and receive – critical information regarding ACT solutions and services as well as information regarding opportunities that may exist within given states; and Educate, provide updates and alerts, and when necessary mobilize state organization members to advocate and promote ACT solutions as the local grassroots level.

FY14 Focus Areas Extend membership to workforce related state customers and user groups; Increase K-12 representation to support new ACT solutions including ACT Aspire; Provide enhanced professional development and networking opportunities for state organization members; Create improved communications channels to provide – and receive – critical information regarding ACT solutions and services as well as information regarding opportunities that may exist within given states; Provide more timely and effective communication to members on relevant workforce and education issues Provide specific and relevant content to support local level ACT constituents Include the use of social media, better use of ACT’s State Organization web site, and other enhanced communication tools Educate, provide updates and alerts, and when necessary mobilize state organization members to advocate and promote ACT solutions as the local grassroots level.

Provide training and support for local grassroots advocacy efforts Make available research, data, and information – with appropriate messaging – to support local level advocacy Create a conduit for information sharing about emerging and new opportunities for ACT at local and state level Provide ‘just in time’ information to ACT on local and state opportunities

Lead: Kurt Burkum • Develop and elevate “landmark” policy research to position ACT a national thought leader • Broaden ACT thought leadership opportunities by providing new research in “horizon” education and workforce arenas • Provide relevant, high-quality policy research to support state and national college and career opportunities Policy Research

Lead: Gretchen Guffy • Create and disseminate K-12, post-secondary, and workforce policy platforms to influence federal- and state-level policymaking • Create partnerships with other national/state policymaking groups in support of ACT policy positions • Advance the current state of policy discourse at the federal and state level Policy Development

  16. Lead: Tom Lindsley • Position ACT Aspire with national and federal policymakers and thought leaders • Create congressional support for ACT’s federal legislative recommendations Federal Advocacy

Lead: Chris Kratzer • Monitor state-level policy and legislative actions • Cultivate local champions to help shape state-level legislative policy • Provide guidance and support to state-level field staff and state organization members on relevant state policy efforts • Provide or coordinate direct legislative advocacy as necessary • Provide information, training, and/or PD on grassroots advocacy State Advocacy
