  2. Roles & Responsibilities of Branch Welfare Officer • Report to & advise Branch Management Committee (BMC) on child protection issues • Promote child protection in the Branch • Assist in the organisation of child protection training

Child Protection in the Branch • 69 clubs in Lifesavers Ireland • 38 clubs (57%) have nominated & informed the Branch who their Club Welfare Officer (CWO) is • 43% of clubs have not informed the Branch who their CWO is • 29 clubs are not adhering to the guidelines as laid out in section 5.1 of our guideline document • Child Welfare, Good Practice & Child Protection Policy and Procedures

  4. Roles & Responsibilities of Club Welfare Officer (CWO) • Ensure club awareness & compliance with RLSS Child Protection Policy (CPP) • Receive, record, & report any child protection concerns quickly • Liase with Branch Welfare Officer • Be aware of the local statutory child protection network

Club Welfare Officer – person specification Must be: - • over 18 years of age (as the definition of a child is anyone under 18 years of age) • in full current membership of RLSS • trustworthy, able to respect confidentiality, a good communicator & known to the members of the club • willing to undertake training in child protection procedures

  6. Child Protection in Sport awareness training 4 hour module: - • rolled out by the Irish Sports Council • through the Local Sports Partnership network • providing information on codes of conduct, recruitment & selection, and awareness of the appropriate club response to allegations of child abuse • suitable for all Trainer Assessors (TAs), Teachers & Assistant Trainer Assessors (ATAs) subject to participants being over 18 years of age • certified

Child Protection in Sport awareness training To avail of the 4 hour Child Protection in Sport awareness training: - • all TAs, Teachers & ATAs wishing to undertake this training should contact their nearest Local Sports Partnership (details available from Branch Welfare Officer) • if TAs, Teachers & ATAs cannot attend a course in their area, then a series of courses will be arranged by the Branch Welfare Officer • please note, a nominal fee may be charged for attendance at these courses, however it is hoped that some grant assistance may become available in the future

  8. Children’s Officer training 6 hour module: - • also rolled out by the Irish Sports Council in conjunction with the Health Services Executive • through the Local Sports Partnership network • providing • suitable for CWOs • certified Further information on this course will be available from the Branch Welfare Officer in due course

Time frame It is recommended that: - • CWOs for the remaining 29 clubs to be nominated • All TAs, Teachers & ATAs undertake the 4 hour Child Protection in Sport awareness training • Copies of all certificates of attendance at the the 4 hour Child Protection in Sport awareness training should be forwarded to the Branch Welfare Officer
