This study presents a statistical approach for detecting faces based on color in digital images. It outlines 4 stages: pre-processing, skin color region labeling, statistical face selection techniques, and edge detection. Advantages include high success rate, speed, no training required, compatible with video compression standards. However, it requires a minimum number of faces in the image and is more effective with a reliable facial detector.
