  3. AIM Assessment of exposure to environmental factors associated with oil extraction activities in order to evaluate the feasibility of an assessment of the health impacts. OBJECTIVES • Implementation of a cross sectional study through survey to assess socio-demographic data and other relevant health-related factors, • Collecting health relevant data from health center in the region, • Preparation of a dataset with the above data, suitable for subsequent analysis, • 4. Identification of methods, tools and resources for carrying out the health impact assessment exercise,

METHODOLOGY • A point study (cross-sectional) was implemented in the period April/ 2015 in the population of the Marines village in the district of Fier, near the oil extraction companies. • The study used a questionnaire with structured and semi-structured questions through which it was taken information on socio-economic factors of population, exposure time, health problems of possible environmental factors and nutritional practices and attitudes. • Intentional sample of 352 persons (1 adult per 1 family) is about 85% of families registered in the area. The area was divided into 4 parts by the center and the area's main roads; each area has different distance from the oil wells.

  6. Results The results of investigation on health are presented in the following graphs a. The average number of members in the respondent’s families is 4.5 ± 1.5 inhabitants. The average age of respondents was 54.1 ± 14.1. b. The average time from residential exposure in the village is 48.6 years ± 19 years. Minimum period of life of respondents is 6 years.

  7. Results Three figures linked to each other show low socio-economic level in this population.

  8. Results The average number of cases of bronchial asthma in the family is 1.15 ± 0.3 cases. In total there are 25 reported cases with bronchial asthma

  9. Results 8.81 % of surveyed families result has at least one person with malignant diseases. Malignant disease with the greatest number of cases turns out to be breast cancer (Ca.mame).

  10. Results Results of phenol in urine in 8 inhabitants of the Marinëz village The standard refers to the oil workers (for 8 hours of work and 5 days)

  11. Results Regarding the birth of children with abnormalities only 11% of respondents indicated that families have a baby with congenital anomalies.

  12. Recommendations Trends monitoring of environment conditions to identify potential health risks; 2. To help in investigating of potential links between environment and health (as part of epidemiological studies), as a basis for informing interventions and health policies; 3. Providing clear guidance on the design and assessment of the indicators (environment and health), undertakes health and exposure surveillance; 4. Facilitates public participation and effective community relations; 5. Develops policy initiatives and recommendations; 6.Maintains scientific preparedness
