  1. Jonathan and Lucas Basilisk and King cobra snake

  2. There are five different groups of animals with vertebrates. • Mammals • Reptiles • Fish • Amphibians • Birds

  3. The King cobra snake and the Basilisk are both Reptiles.

  4. Most Reptiles have these characteristics: • Most have scales. • Breath in lungs. • Most are cold blooded. • Born in eggs. • Most have tails

  5. Green Basilisk Lizard A Basilisk lizard lives in trees and rocks located near water. They like to live in the moist tropical rainforest of South America.

  6. Green Basilisk Lizard The Green Basilisk Lizard has a special adaptation. It can run on water. The Basilisk can run across the surface of water for short distances using his strong legs. It has very long toes on its rear feet and that helps him stay on top of the water.

  7. Green Basilisk Lizard • These lizards have strong legs. They can cover up to 32 feet on top of the water before they dive in and start swimming…or sink to the bottom to hide.

  8. Green Basilisk Lizard They have teeth that help it eat fruit and plants as well as small creatures such as insects and fish. They are omnivores so they like to eat meat and plants.

  9. Green Basilisk Lizard • These creatures are native to South America. Basilisk lizards can grow up to about two and a half feet long. Males have a crest along their back.

  10. King Cobra The King Cobra has false eyes on the back of its hood to scare away predators. The King Cobra is the largest most poisonous snake in the world and is truly the “King” of all venomous snakes. • Being a king means he [she] will eat other snakes.

  11. Cobra The King Cobra eats mice, rats, snakes, lizards, birds, frogs and fish. Like all snakes, they swallow the prey whole, head first.

  12. The King Cobra The top and bottom jaws are attached to each other with stretchy ligaments, which let the snake swallow animals wider that itself. • Snakes can't chew their prey. Food is digested by very strong acids in the snake's stomach. It can go without food for months.

  13. King Cobra • The hooded King Cobra stares at any predator. They almost seem to mesmerize you with their swaying bodies, trance, and eyes.

  14. King Cobra • The King Cobra has scales covering its skin and looks shiny but it is dry to the touch. Adults are yellow, green, brown, or black; the throat is light yellow or cream-colored. Their coloring helps them sneak up on their prey.

  15. The Green Basilisk Lizard and the King Cobra We hope you learned a lot about these neat reptiles. Look for one in a zoo or a pet shop near you.
