  3. Haiku is an honored form of poetry of Japanese origin that came into existence during Japan's Edo period (1603-1867)

  4. Classic Haiku consists of 3 lines that use the 5-7-5 syllable formula.

  8. Miss Hode’s Haikus Red and yellow leaves Crinkle crinkle as I walk Fall is in the air Snowy mountain peak Crisp and white touching the sky Wish I could reach it

  9. Since writing Haiku requires only a few words, every word is very important.  The language used should be pure and simple, and it does not have to rhyme.

  11. Cinquain

  12. A cinquain is a 5-line poem or stanza, that describes a person, place or thing

  13. Each line must contain a certain number of syllables: Line 1- two Line 2- four Line 3- six Line 4- eight Line 5- two

  14. Cinquains follow a certain method: Line 1 - a one word title (a noun) Line 2 - 2 adjectives describing line one Line 3 - 3 action words describing line one (“ing”) Line 4 - a phrase that describes a feeling relating to line one Line 5 – a synonym for line one (a noun)

  15. Here’s an example: Puppy Jumpy, playful Running, biting, pawing Running fast on the dirty grass        Warming By “Chelsey”

  16. Cinquains: Tuba Shiny, Heavy Playing, Singing, Dancing The best band instrument ever Jolly

  17. Miss Hode’s cinquains: Crayons Yellow, Orange Drawing, Writing, Laughing Bringing me back to my childhood Colors
