Golden LEAF Scholarship • This award is valued at $12,000 ($3,000 per year for up to four years) for students from qualifying rural counties who plan to attend a participating NC campus in the fall. • Must be a NC resident and demonstrate financial need. • Application and qualifying counties can be viewed at www.CFNC.org/goldenleaf. • DEADLINE: March 1, 2012

Lumbee River EMC • Scholarships worth $4,000 are availabe for students who plan to attend a four year university and $1,200 for those who plan to attend a two-year college. • Must be a senior whose parents or guardians are members of the cooperative. • Applications are available in guidance or online at Lumbee River EMC Community. • DEADLINE: March 2, 2012

  24. 2012 “People Helping People” Scholarship • Must be a US citizen and a resident of NC under NCGS 116 143.1 and is eligible for in-state tuition. • Exemplify the membership leadership, excellence of character, integrity and community involvement. • Applicants should not be a director, employee, or family member of an employee of the State Employee’s Credit Union or the SECU Foundation. • DEADLINE: April 5, 2012

  25. Selective Service • If you are a man ages 18-25 and living in the US, then you must register with Selective Service. According to law a man must register with Selective Service within 30 days of his 18th birthday. • Register at any Post Office or online at http://ww.ss.gov

  26. UNC Chapel Hill • If you are interested in attending UNC Chapel Hill and you are a Junior. Please come by to see Ms. Karen. • We can only take the first 15 students who register for Project Uplift.

  27. SAT & ACT Announcement • Seniors and Juniors: If you eat free or reduced lunch you may be eligible for a fee waiver for the SAT Test and College Applications. See your Guidance Counselor for information.

Congratulations PurnellSwett HS JROTC Rifle Team!!! • First time in 17 years we are in 1st Place during the PSRC-JROTC county rifle match. • Best shooter- Cadet Command Sergeant Major Terry Deese. • Most improved shooter- Cadet 1st Sergeant Joshua Rogers. • 3 out of 5 cadets made the conference team: Terry Deese, Joshua Rogers, and Jose Osuna.

  32. FFA Members: • Teachers please allow FFA members out of class to take yearbook picture. Students need to go to Mr. Moore’s class. Picture will be taken during reading time Tuesday 2/28.

  34. African American Student Organization • The African American Student Organization will meet tomorrow Tuesday, Feb.28th immediately after school in the media center.

  35. Online Classes • Online classes have started, please make sure you log on to the website. If you need your username and password, please see your grade level counselor!

Poetry and Short Prose Contest • Sponsored by The Friends of the Library of UNCP. • Open to all area high school students, UNCP students, and the general public. • Prizes- 1st place: $250.00, 2nd place: $150.00, 3rd place: $100.00. • Entry deadline- February 29, 2012. • For more information: http://www.uncp.edu/library/ and click contest links, or talk to your English teachers.

  44. Dressing for Success • Teachers are encouraged to offer classroom incentives to students who “Dress for Success.” Each week a student will be randomly selected by administration to receive a $10 gift card to www.MyLocker.net for the purchase of Purnell Swett gear.

  47. Answer: • “Hyperbole” is extravagant exaggeration, often not intended to be taken literally. If Marisol is prone, or has a tendency or inclination, to greatly exaggerate things or make extravagantly exaggerated statements, Enrique would know not to take her statement seriously that she was going to sleep for a week.
