  3. An easier way is with definite integration. Evaluate the integral at the points a and b then subtract a from b to find the area. This is called the fundamental theorem of calculus It connects the accumulation function (adding up all those rectangles) to the integral or the area under the curve is equal to the value of the integral at the point.
