I.350, • QoS is defined in Recommendation E.800 as follows: “Collective effect of service performance which determine the degree of satisfaction of a user of the service”. • In Recommendation I.350, “NP is measured in terms of parameters which are meaningful to the network provider and are used for the purpose of system design, configuration, operation and maintenance. NP is defined independently of terminal performance and user actions”. GSC-9, Seoul

  3. Man-Machine Interface Network Interface Network Interface Man-Machine Interface CN AN AN CPN CPN Network Performance for NGN Quality of Service for NGN QoE QoE User TE TE User General Aspects for NGN QoS • New definition of QoE was raised from ITU-T SG12 • QoE is defined as a measure of the overall acceptability of an application or service, as perceived by the user. • I.350 defines “General aspects of quality of service and network performance in digital networks, including ISDNs” New Recommendation for ‘General aspects for NGN QoS’ is required GSC-9, Seoul

  4. Harmonization among the existing Recs. • ITU has developed ‘protocol layer-dependant performance Recs.’ as follows; • Multimedia Performance : G.1000 & G.1010 • Hybrid networks performance : Y.HYBperf. • IP Performance : Y.1540 & Y.1541 • Ethernet Performance : Y.ETHperf. • ATM Performance : I.356 • MPLS Performance : Y.1561 • TCP performance : Y.1531… GSC-9, Seoul

  5. Eg ., Video Services (TV, movie, etc) Eg ., Video Services (TV, movie, etc) Eg ,, Data Services (e.g.,WWW, e-mail, etc) Eg ,, Data Services (e.g.,WWW, e-mail, etc) Eg .,Voice Telephony Services (audio, etc) Eg .,Voice Telephony Services (audio, etc) Services Services Transport Transport Transport Harmonization among the existing Recs. • For NGN QoS study, the relationship among the existing performance Recs. should be clarified. • It will be based on the basic concept of NGN-GRM • Mapping/translation (of parameter or QoS class) approach may be useful. How to be harmonized the developed Recs. should be considered. G.1000 & G.1010 Y.HYBperf. & the others GSC-9, Seoul

  6. More Stringent Objectives in Y.1541 • ITU-T Recommendation Y.1541 should be reviewed in light of emerging applications to determine whether it is necessary and practical to specify more stringent objectives for IPLR and IPER, taking into account the compressed data (i.e., G.729a for voice and MPEG-4 for multimedia) • New QoS class / Revision of current objectives could be considered More stringent objectives for error-related parameters(IPLE & IPER) is needed GSC-9, Seoul

  7. Proposal • Following three items are proposed as standards issues in NGN end-to-end QoSthat need close collaboration among SDOs: • New Recommendation for ‘General aspects for NGN QoS’ • Harmonization among the existing Recs. • More stringent objectives for error-related parameters • Reference : Resolution GSC-8/9 : Next Generation Networks GSC-9, Seoul
