Kappale 11. Pedot luokitellaan: 1. hyönteissyöjiin Päästäiset, lepakot, kontiaiset 2. pienpetoihin Näätä, kärppä, lumikko, kettu, supikoira 3. suurpetoihin Susi, karhu, ilves ja ahma rauhoitettuja. Pedot saalistavat heikot yksilöt, jolloin saaliseläinkanta pysyy elinvoimaisena.

  1. Kappale 11 • Pedot luokitellaan: • 1. hyönteissyöjiin • Päästäiset, lepakot, kontiaiset • 2. pienpetoihin • Näätä, kärppä, lumikko, kettu, supikoira • 3. suurpetoihin • Susi, karhu, ilves ja ahma • rauhoitettuja

  2. Pedot saalistavat heikot yksilöt, jolloin saaliseläinkanta pysyy elinvoimaisena. • Parhaat yksilöt pääsevät lisääntymään. • Pedot eivät aiheuta sukupuuttoon kuolemisia, ihmisen toiminta kylläkin.

  3. Petoja on oltava vähemmän kuin saaliseläimiä. • Kun saalistettavaa on vähän, pedot eivät saa poikasia tai ainakin poikastuotanto on heikkoa.

  4. Ihminen säätelee petokantoja metsästyksellä. • Yksilömäärät tällä hetkellä Suomessa: • Susia 150 • Karhuja 1500 • Ahmoja 150 • Ilveksiä 2500
