  2. CERT Objectives • To be able to respond effectively to disaster events in the Solivita community, by: • Planning for them, based on CERT training • Recruiting members and volunteers to help • Budgeting • Acquiring equipment and supplies • Training and exercising

  3. Activities supporting this Objective • Annual Dinner with spouses • Review of 2010 accomplishments • Had 17 new members train (5 in spring; 12 in fall) • Programs: • Annual radio familiarization exercise • Hands-on generator familiarization • Personal Safety • Pilot training for Check-Call-Compress • Review of Personal Preparedness Outreach Brief

  4. More such activities… • Reorganized medical supplies into 4 cabinets (behind ballroom stage) • Reviewed/updated Command Post Standard Operating Procedures • Reviewed/updated Medical Standard Operating Procedures • Met with medically-trained residents to orient them for potential involvement

More such activities… • Conducted our annual drill (Wed, April 6) • Set up Command Post and communications • Set up medical triage center • Powered the CP and medical center with our generators • Performed wide-ranging S&R (across all portions of Solivita) • Used volunteer victims • Programs: • Reviewed triage principles and procedures • Splinting practice

Even more such activities… • Submitted invoices for reimbursement by the Homeowners Associations • Acquired: • New orange Safety vests (via Polk Fire Services and the PCCA) • Headlights (NEPP), Clipboards (NEPP) • Traffic cones (NEPP), thermal blankets, (NEPP) • Batteries – assorted (NEPP) • Updates to our Go-bags (from Armor Products via PCCA) • Chain saw (16 inch)

  7. CERT Objectives (continued) • To assist Solivita residents in preparing properly for disasters, by: • Disseminating useful information • Surveying/canvassing neighborhoods • Planning for many types of response needs

Activities supporting this Objective… • Monthly articles in Reflections highlighting aspects of community preparedness and CERT opportunities • Provided handouts to Concierge on preparing for hurricanes • Annual smoke detector battery changing project (100+ homes) • CJ, Michael, Phil, Charlie, Wayne

More such activities… • Assisted in scheduling a Coffee Talk on Hurricane Preparedness by Polk Emergency Management • With CERT recruiting presentation • Prepared a disaster awareness presentation to take to Solivita clubs (do you know any?) • Democrats, SOS, Shalom, Filippinos, Veterans, Widows Club • Sponsored the county’s first Check-Call-Compress CPR training session here in Solivita

Even more such activities… • Joined the Neighborhood Emergency Preparedness Program (of FEMA) through the Polk Department of Public Health… • To improve community awareness/preparedness via education • To improve our planning breadth and depth for a broader range of potential disasters • To take awareness programs to residents via Solivita’s clubs (seven last year!) • Submitted our initial Solivita Preparedness Plan to NEPP (Neighborhood Emergency Preparedness Program)

CERT Objectives (concluded) • To support Polk County and regional response needs, by • Responding to events in the County as activated by the Emergency Manager • Participating in county-wide forums and conferences • Participating in county and regional emergency response exercises • Meeting other community needs

Activities supporting this Objective… • Participated in monthly Polk County CERT Association (PCCA) meetings • 2 members elected to the Board • Michael Weitz – President for 2012 • Wayne Schoeffel – Secretary for 2012 • Attended Emergency Preparedness Action Council (with emergency organizations from across the county—hospitals, LEA, Fire services, FHP, many others) • Supported EOC Exercise with radio reports • Participated in ARES

More such activities… • Provided workers for Polk Hurricane Expo in Winter Haven • Participated in Search & Rescue Training with CAP • Participated in Polk County CERT Association annual Dinner-Election • Participated in CERT Challenge “games” • Provided crowd/traffic control for Solivita Mardi Gras parade • Manned Lifestyles’ flip-a-frog booth at Spring Carnival (for visibility—not to mention fun)

Even more such activities… • Provided traffic control for Solivita’s annual Fall Festival • Provided crowd control for Solivita’s annual Holiday Parade • Provided escorts for spring cancer walk • Encouraged ham operators to join ARES • Pat Woods named Solivita CERT Member of the Year (for behind-the-scenes efforts in radio operation and installation)

  16. Other ongoing activities… • Acquisition of equipment (paid for by HOA funds): • Re-installation of permanent radio equipment rack • Updated radio frequency list (new county freqs) • Replacement of many additional member equipment bags (Go-bags) that had failed

  17. More ongoing activities… • Lending of wheelchairs, walkers, canes, potty’s and shower stools (to 100+ residents)
