  1. Lab Equipments

  2. Beaker Beakers hold solids or liquids that will not release gases when reacted or are unlikely to splatter if stirred or heated.

  3. Erlenmeyer Flask Erlenmeyer flasks hold solids or liquids that may release gases during a reaction or that are likely to splatter if stirred or heated.

  4. Florence Flask used for the mixing of chemicals. Narrow neck prevents splash exposure.

  5. Graduated Cylinder A graduated cylinder is used to measure volumes of liquids.

  6. Gas Collecting Bottle We use gas collecting bottles when large volumes of gases are produced, and must be collected by the displacement of water.

  7. Test Tubes 13 x 100 mm test tubes Ignition tube 10 x 75 mm test tubes

  8. Test Tube Holder A test tube holder is useful for holding a test tube which is too hot to handle.

  9. Test Tube Brushes Test tube brushes are used to clean test tubes and graduated cylinders. Forcing a large brush into a small test tube will often break the tube.

  10. Test Tube Racks Test tube racks are for holding and organizing test tubes on the laboratory counter. Plastic racks may melt in contact with very hot test tubes.

  11. Rubber Stoppers Rubber stoppers are used to close containers to avoid spillage or contamination. Containers should never be heated when there is a stopper in place.

  12. Watch Glass A watch glass is used to hold a small amount of solid, such as the product of a reaction.

  13. Glass Stir Rod A glass rod is used to manually stir solutions. It can also be used to transfer a single drop of a solution.

  14. Medicine Dropper A medicine dropper is used to transfer a small volume of liquid (less than one mL). On top of each medicine dropper is a “rubber bulb”

  15. Funnel A funnel is used to aid in the transfer of liquid from one vessel to another.

  16. Mohr Pipette A Mohr pipette measures and delivers exact volumes of liquids.

  17. Spatulas Spatulas are used to dispense solid chemicals from their containers. Chemicals should never be transferred with your bare hands.

  18. Beaker Tongs Beaker tongs are used to move beakers containing hot liquids

  19. Bunsen Burner Bunsen burners are used for the heating of nonvolatile liquids and solids.

  20. Evaporating Dish The evaporating dish is used for the heating of stable solid compounds and elements.

  21. Crucible Tongs For handling hot crucibles; also used to pick up other hot objects. NOTto be used for picking up beakers!

  22. Crucible with cover Crucibles are used for heating certain solids, particularly metals, to very high temperatures.

  23. Glass Plates Glass plates provide a surface for semi-micro scale experiments, such as drop reactions and testing of acids and bases.

  24. Iron stand and their Components Is a solid rod mounted on a base used as support in holding glass flasks

  25. Clay Triangle The clay triangle is used as a support for porcelain crucibles when being heated over a Bunsen burner.

  26. Iron Rings Iron rings connect to a ringstand and provide a stable, elevated platform for the reaction.

  27. Utility Clamps Utility clamps are used to secure test tubes, distillation columns, and burets to the ringstand.

  28. Wire Gauze Wire gauze sits on the iron ring to provide a place to stand a beaker. On older wire gauze, the white material is asbestos!

  29. Thermometer Used in measuring temperature

  30. Alcohol Lamp Used in heating

  31. Mortar and Pestle Used in grinding or refining solid chemicals

  32. Spring Balance Used in measuring weight

  33. Triple Beam Balance Measures the mass of an object

  34. Iron stand and their Components Is a solid rod mounted on a base used as support in holding glass flasks

  35. Iron Rings Iron rings connect to a ringstand and provide a stable, elevated platform for the reaction.

  36. Utility Clamps Utility clamps are used to secure test tubes, distillation columns, and burettes to the ring stand.

  37. Reagent bottle-serve as container

  38. pH meter/pH paperused to measure the pH values of different substances

  39. Petri dishis used in the preparation of bacteriological cultures.

  40. Tripodis a three-legged support or stand for a wire gauze and a container with liquid to be heated

  41. Blue and red litmus paperan indicator which isused to determine if a substance is an acid or base.

  42. Tuning forkused to observe the vibration of a moving object to make sounds

  43. Vernier caliperused to measure the internal and external diameters of tubes or pipes

  44. Micrometers Used to measure the thickness of a sheet of paper and the diameter of thin wires

  45. Thistle tube Used to transfer or pour liquids from one container to the bottom of another vessel

  46. Magnet A piece of iron, steel or stone that attracts metal objects.

  47. Cork Is a light, spongy material which is ideal for bottle stoppers.

  48. Magnifying glass Used to make small things look bigger

  49. Measuring glass Used to measure amount of liquid

  50. Cork borer Used to make holes
