  1. The Type II Hero (Northrup Frye) • “If superior in degree to other men and to his environment, the hero is the typical hero of romance, whose actions are marvelous but who is himself identified as a human being. The hero of romance moves in a world in which the ordinary laws of nature are slightly suspended…” (p. 33).

  2. Frye (continued) • The fact that these laws frequently seem to be suspended by the hero himself give the Type II figure a semidivine aura even though he is of earthly mold. Though limited, he is still overwhelmingly powerful and overwhelmingly virtuous. He is, however, capable of error (though seldom of crime or serious sin) and ultimately he is vulnerable.
