Latest Developments NWG Aspects of sustainability; • NWG is newly established body; the sustainability can be evaluated after two meetings. • Regular meetings and increased visibility with the relevant authorities (and acceptance by the authorities of the NWG as a competent body) would be most beneficial.   4. Latest Developments Regional Action Plan, aspects of sustainability; • To intensify cooperation among the NC; • Exchange of information (currently implemented); • Ongoing discussion of future plans and objectives; • Discussion of (joint) problems; In association with Ramboll, Milieu & Tethys

Latest Developments VIMSAS • Georgian Lawyer started implementation of ACTIVITY 1.2 -status of implementation of the IMO instruments and ACTIVITY 1.3 “Discuss and plan accession to the “Voluntary IMO Member State Audit Scheme – VIMSAS”. • As stated above the initial reaction on the introduction of VIMSAS is most positive. • Approximate date for application of VIMSAS is end of 2011. Latest Developments Port State Control: • There are four open port in Georgia: Batumi, Supsa, Poti and Kulevi; • Sokhumi port is closed and Georgia can not undertake port state control; • Single hull tankers exeeding 3.000 t • Georgia is trying to strengthen PSC and make it more efficient in the future with the help of various types of international assistance, similar to EU funded SASEPOL project. Latest Developments Port State Control • Port State Control is implemented by the Maritime Transport Department of the United Transport Administration of Georgia. • The functions are carried out under the control of the Harbour Masters, who belong to the Maritime Transport Department Port State.   8. Latest Development Port State Control • The main problems are: • shortage of Port State Control officers; • the technical capacity of the ports for maintenance and repair of vessels while berthing. In association with Ramboll, Milieu & Tethys

  9. Latest Developments Port Waste Management • Single hull tankers and bankers exceeding 3000 tones cannot enter Georgian ports; • Technical desinfectors are required. In association with Ramboll, Milieu & Tethys

  10. Conclusions, Next Steps • Close cooperation planned with the Batumi Maritime Academy regarding the trainings and venue. • Intensify meetings on National level, as well as on Regional level, for coordination of efforts and information exchange. • Increase in visibility of SASEPOL project.
