Pros • Can use probationary period before giving • Dog can compete in KC events • Okay as long as dog is neutered • Gain health information on the dogs • Can use welfare number instead of KC documents • In some cases (vulnerable breeds) might want to keep dogs in gene pool
Cons • Loving home more important than papers • Suspicious of prospective owner’s motives • May encourage breeding • Protects welfare of the dog • Can enter shows at pet level or through Agility register • Dogs deserve same chance irrespective of pedigree • May need to change name of dog
