EU-ETS-NER300 • CCS projects: • Between 1 and 3 projects (Pre/Post-combustion, Oxy-fuel, and industrial applications) • Min size threshold: 250 MW • Min capture efficiency: 85% • All CO2 emissions sources (energy, steel, cement, …) • Payment: Yearly basis during operation and as a function of the CO2 stored • Financial penalty if 75% of projected CO2 stores is not achieved 6 2nd Carbon Capture and Storage Conference

Status of CCS in Germany • 1st Round • Federal German draft CCS-Law as of April 1st, 2009 • GOAL: Stimulate a successful demonstration phase • The draft law integrated all CCS stages: capture, transport, exploration of storage sites, injection, and decommissioning • July 2009 – Parliament postpones CCS Legislation • 2nd Round • March 2010: process re-started • Finalization of CCS legislation by the end of 2010 9 2nd Carbon Capture and Storage Conference
