  1. Avoid Avoid Doing Doing This This If Domestic Domestic Violence If You You Are Violence Are Charged Charged With With “Even the false accusations of a person of dubious morality can taint the reputation of an upright servant.” -Hock G. Tjoa, The Ingenious Judge Dee In the state of Colorado, a domestic violence charge is regarded as a “no drop” charge. Whether you are wrongfully charged with domestic violence or your charges are true, in both the situations, there are certain things that you must avoid at any cost in order to stay away from further trouble. Have a look at these things that you must avoid doing: Anger is one letter short of danger. One thing you should definitely avoid is losing your temper at any point of time because it would only invite more trouble for you. Be calm even if you feel very strongly about your wrongful accusation. You would end up making your case weak if you do not hold onto your temper.  Be extremely careful when you give out an official statement to the police. Consider consulting your domestic violence defense attorney or an even better option would be to not give out any official statements without your defense attorney’s presence.  Most probably, there would be restraining orders for you. In such cases, you should avoid maintaining any kind of contact with the victim until the orders are put off. Even if the victim tries to make contact with you, simply ignore it. If you fail to do so, you would attract further penalties.  Never try to threaten the victim or a witness in any way. This would not only prove to be useless (since this is a “no drop” charge) but could also make your case so weak that it would become very difficult to even minimize your charges, let alone entirely drop them. 

  2. Follow the protection orders religiously without any fail. Do not try to revocate them or you would attract further penalties.  The arresting officer will ask a range of questions from you. Do not answer him unless your lawyer is present with you. This is a right that you can exercise. Let the officer know politely that you want your lawyer’s presence at the time of questioning.  If you have lost parental rights, then consider getting this dispute settled by your defense attorney rather than getting hyper and frustrated about it. Domestic violence defense attorneys are skilled in settling such disputes and preventing you from losing your parental rights.  Do not be ignorant of your rights and also exercise them at appropriate times. Your defense attorney will help you know your rights in detail and also assist you in exercising them when required.  Contact Contact Details The Law Offices Of Steven J Pisani, LLC Dominion Tower South, 600 17th Street, Suite 2823 Denver CO 80202 info@pisanilaw.com www.pisanilaw.com (303) 635-6768 Details
