  2. Living with conviction means that you say “no” to some things so you can say “yes” to the right things.

Daniel 1:11-2011 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,12 “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.”

  4. 14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. 16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.17 To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning.

  5. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians.The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king’s table. They were to be trained for three years, and after that they were to enter the king’s service.6 Among those who were chosen were some from Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.

And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds. 18 At the end of the time set by the king to bring them into his service, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar. 19 The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s service.

  7. 20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.

  16. The Vegetable Challenge

  17. The word for food here ispat bag no particular type of food

  18. Eating the king’s food would enter him into a covenantal relationship with the king.

  19. Daniel had other ideas.

  20. Daniel knew that by giving in and eating he would be connected to whatever future policy or plan the king would have.

  21. Daniel know that although the food was fit for a king, it wasn’t fit for a servant of the King of kings.

  22. Daniel knew that saying yes would have taken his convictions and tossed them aside, turning him into just another guy with a price.

  23. Daniel didn’t know how any of it was going to turn out.

  24. There’s a lot of uncertainty when you stand up for something you believe in...

  25. There are always going to be people who are supposedly "on your side," who will not be able to travel with you when you decide to walk the straight and narrow...

  26. He could have gone on doing his thing, but would have known he had given it all away to appease the culture around him.

  27. If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.

  34. Defined by Worshipwhen there’s nothing else left... that’s when God gets your best

  35. “Being a Christian is all about what you can’t do.”

  36. In order to say “yes” to something you have to say “no” to other things.

  37. Example: “I want to spend more time with my family...”

  38. If you live a life of conviction, you have to say no to things that...

  39. Compromise your relationship with Godanything that threatens to become king of your life messes up your relationship with the King of kings.

  40. Blur your vision of what you are called to do and to be. who do you see in the mirror??

  41. Destroy a bit of your true identityhow much of yourself are you giving away?

  42. Steal the joy of your salvationWhy are so many Christians so angry?
