  2. Text: John 3:16 • For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth on him should not perish but have everlasting life.

  3. 1 Corinthians 13 • v 1. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. • v 2. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

  4. 1 Corinthians 13 • v 13.  And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

  5. 1 Corinthians 13 • v 3. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

  6. I. Loving cost God his Son.

  7. God need not save us. He actually does not need us but out of His love to us He sent his Son to die on the cross.

  8. Christ is the Cost of God’s Love • Jesus Christ could have chosen to do as he will, but as he always said in his earthly ministry- not my will but your will be done. • Salvation, bourne out of the love of the Father, paid by the Son, and sustained by the Spirit, was delivered unto men.

  9. II. Christ showed his love to the world by obeying the will of the Father.

  10. 1 John 3:16 • Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

  11. Matthew 26:39 •  And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

  12. I John 3:18 • My little children let us not love in word, nor in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

  13. III. Live Loving: The Right Response to God’s Love.

  14. 1 John 4:11 • Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

  15. To further illustrate how God shows his love to us, is by recognizing one of God’s best laborers in love. • MOMS

  16. THE CHALLENGE TO US would be then be live loving as God wants us to, as Christ showed it to us, as God manifested his love towards us, as our mothers selflessly devoted their lives teaching us how to- but all solely because God first loved us. • Psalm 34:8 “ o taste and see that the Lord is good;..”
