Info from ehic.europa.eu • When : If you are going on holiday, a business trip or a short break or are heading off to study abroad • Note : can not use EHIC in your country of residence • What : you are given the care you need to allow you to continue with your stay. • Note : idea of urgent care • How : Same access to public sector health care as nationals of the country you are visiting.  • If country charges for health care, you will be reimbursed either immediately, or after you go home. • Note : medical care not necessarily free ! • Excluded from coverage: • If travelling in order to obtain treatment for an illness or injury that you had before travelling. • Care from private sector health care providers.
