Share Child’s Enthusiasm • Prompt them to research further; • Suggest books/ websites; • Be aware of new vocabulary; • Encourage use of broader vocabulary; • Model new language; • Challenge them; • Ask them to challenge you; • Provide supports needed- atlas, dictionary, scrapbooks etc.; • Praise efforts to extend their knowledge and interests.

  5. Inspire • Encourage your child to be the best they can be; • Let them know regularly that you believe in them; • Teach them to value education and point out the difference it will make to their lives.

  6. Trust • Give them more responsibility and expect them to rise to the challenge; • Place emphasis on child taking a mature attitude to work and helping at home; • Teach them that their schoolwork is their responsibility now; • Really believe that they are up to the increased challenge.

  8. Homework management • What is the point? • Homework is your daughter’s responsibility; • Find a routine that works for your family and stick to it; • Check and sign-do not correct; • Teach them to strive to give of their very best consistently; • Corrections; • Communicate with teacher.

Literacy • Make time and space for reading in your home; • Model your own love of reading; • Read some of your children’s books (novels ) and share excitement of story and discuss characters; • Library/ swap books/ charity shops/Book People/ Kindle/ E-books/ Audio books; • Expose to a range of genres.

Maths • Tables-now or never!!!! • Maths in everyday life; • Share your use of maths in work place; • Board games for all the family; • Use of Apps to improve problem –solving skills and computation/ calculation skills • Presentation of Maths homework- Steps; • Use of Calculation Column; • Answer highlighted in RED; • Check mistakes and correct; • Early detection of problems vital.
