  2. HEART ATTACK (Coronary) • SIGNS • Intense, griping pain in the left chest, neck to jaw through the shoulder blades • Pale, cool moist skin • Trouble breathing • Denial • May have no pulse/breathing

  3. HEART ATTACK (Coronary) • TREATMENT • If conscious • Ask if they have any medication • (nitroglycerin tablets) • Elevate head & shoulders • Have them cough violently

  4. HEART ATTACK (Coronary) • TREATMENT • If unconscious • Cardio PulmonaryRespiration (CPR) • Call 911 & request oxygen • Treat for shock

  6. STROKE (Blockage in the brain) • SIGNS • Confusion/memory loss • Sudden intense headache • Weakness/paralysis on 1 side of body • Loss of balance/coordination • Blurred vision/uneven pupils

  7. STROKE (Blockage in the brain) • SIGNS CONT. • Slurred speech • Difficult to swallow & breathe • May have no pulse/breathing

  8. STROKE (Blockage in the brain) • TREATMENTS • Ask – if conscious (are you conscious) • ABC – if unconscious • Treat for shock • Lay on left side (stomach) • Talk to victim • Call 911 (same as heart attack)

  10. STROKE VICTIM • Remember STR (1st 3 letters of stroke) • S *Ask the individual to SMILE. • T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK a SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)(I.e. It is sunny out today)  • R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS
