Where Are Green Jobs? • Middle-skill jobs requiring more than a high school diploma but less than a bachelor’s degree • Majority will be transformed from existing jobs, requiring a redefinition of skill sets, methods and occupational profiles • HVAC technicians learning geothermal pump installation • Carpenters focusing on energy efficiency and weatherization • Electricians learning solar panel installation • Maintenance technicians from coal-fired plants learning to perform similar tasks on wind turbines The Intersection of Policy and Practice

STLCC Partnership Result • HOME ENERGY AUDIT TRAINING (HEAT) • STLCC now an affiliate of the Building Performance Institute (BPI) • 40-hr accelerated class to prepare candidates for BPI certification as a Building Analyst • Instruction includes principles of building science and diagnostic tools • Certification is earned through a written test and performance of a field audit • Graduates find employment with the community action agencies involved in weatherization The Intersection of Policy and Practice

STLCC Brownfields training grant Partners: Saint Louis University Center for Environmental Education and Training (CEET) and local companies Audience: $500,000 for three years to recruit, train and place 120 unemployed or underemployed residents of brownfield-impacted communities Curriculum: Trainees receive 200+ hours of training in remediation of hazardous materials, including HAZWOPER and OSHA certifications Outcomes: Revitalization of impacted communities and redevelopment of brownfield sites The Intersection of Policy and Practice
