  3. Reason 2 In high school students read 250 pages a semester (or they don’t read at all). In college students read upwards of 250 pages a week.

  4. Reason 3 In high school students have lots of safety nets. In college students sink or swim.

  5. Reason 4 In high school, students have frequent tests over small amounts of information. In college, students have few tests over tons of information.

  6. Reason 5 In high school, teachers stay on students’ cases. In college, professors may not even know students’ names.

  7. Reason 6 In high school, the school day is very structured. In college, students need to create structure on their own at the dame time they are finding their way socially and academically.

  8. Reason 7 In high school, students can be successful by studying sporadically. In college, students have to give daily (okay…almost daily) attention to all of their classes.

  9. Reason 8 In high school, students can be a one trick pony. In college, students have to study in different ways.

  10. Reason 9 In high school, teachers tell students everything they need to know. In college, students have lots to figure out by themselves.

  11. Reason 10 In high school, students can catch up even if they aren’t very disciplined. In college, students who are undisciplined get left behind.
