  24. Information that is spread to promote a cause or a certain view is known as Propaganda.

  25. What is Propaganda? • Propaganda is information that is not objective • Propaganda primarily influences an audience and further an agenda • Propaganda is neutrally defined as a systematic form of purposeful persuasion that attempts to influence the emotions, attitudes, opinions, and actions of specified target audiences for ideological, political or commercial purposes • Propaganda has become more common in political contexts, in particular to refer to certain efforts sponsored by governments, political groups, but also often covert interests.

  26. is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position.

  27. Types Scientists define propaganda as either white, grey or black. Whitepropaganda openly discloses its source and intent. Greypropaganda has an ambiguous or non-disclosed source or intent. Blackpropaganda purports to be published by the enemy or some organization besides its actual origins.

  28. Classic Propaganda works greatly when there is no access to alternative sources of information.

  29. Censorship Propaganda can achieve the same purpose not only by filling people's minds with approved information, but by preventing people from being confronted with opposing points of view. Propaganda apart from other forms of advocacy is the willingness of the propagandist to change people's understanding through deception and confusion rather than persuasion and understanding.

  30. Scholars have identified about 67 standard techniques used in propaganda.

  31. Propaganda/ Microtargeting

  32. Propaganda is now moving into a digital age utillizing bots, algorithms, to create computational propaganda and spread online fake or biased news using social media.

  33. Computational Propaganda Political bots are manipulating public opinion over major social networking applications. This project enables a new team of social and information scientists to investigate the impact of automated scripts, commonly called bots, on social media. We study both the bot scripts and the people making such bots, and then work with computer scientists to improve the way we catch and stop such bots. Experience suggests that political bots are most likely to appear during an international crisis, and are usually designed to promote the interests of a government in trouble. Political actors have used bots to manipulate conversations, demobilize opposition, and generate false support on popular sites like Twitter and Facebook from the U.S. as well as SinaWeibo from China.
