FAR or FAR Designee Uses On-line System To Nominate Student-Athletes who: are at least in their final season of eligibility or who will not use any remaining eligibility have a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average have performed with athletic distinction have participated in community service are outstanding citizens and role models intend on pursuing a graduate degree
Walter Byers Scholarship Program One postgraduate scholarship awarded annually to a distinguished male and female student-athlete $24,000 scholarship for two years
FAR or CEO Nominates Student-Athletes who: are graduating seniors or graduate students have a minimum 3.5 cumulative undergraduate grade point average athletics participation has been a positive influence on personal and intellectual development have evidenced superior character and leadership intend on pursuing a graduate degree within five years of award
Jim McKay Scholarship Program One postgraduate scholarship awarded annually to a distinguished male and female student-athlete $10,000 scholarship
FAR or CEO Nominates Student-Athletes who: are graduating seniors or graduate students have a minimum 3.5 cumulative undergraduate grade point average have competed on a varsity team have demonstrated potential to make a major contribution in the sports communications industry have ascribed to the highest levels of integrity and evidenced superior character and leadership understand and appreciate the legacy of Jim McKay intend on pursuing a graduate degree within five years
Community outreach program that connects kids ages 8 to 16 with selected NCAA championships • Provides them with resources designed to have a lasting impact • Participants receive sport instruction from NCAA coaches and student-athletes and get valuable information on fitness, healthy lifestyles and sportsmanship • The clinics also feature a session for parents and guardians with information on recruiting, and academic and eligibility issues.

Even though Sickle Cell Trait screening is normally performed on all U.S. babies at birth, some student-athletes may not know if they have the trait. • Following recommendations from NATA and CAP, the NCAA recommends athletics departments confirmSickle Cell Trait status in all student -athletes, if it is not already known, during their required medical examinations. 2009 NCAA Sickle Cell Trait Guidelines
2010 Sickle Cell Trait Legislation All Division I student-athletes must: • be tested for sickle cell trait, • show proof of a prior test, or • sign a waiver releasing an institution from liability if they decline to be tested. Would be Effective for the 2010-11 academic year.

Did you know? Over the counter dietary supplements may contain NCAA banned substances? Bylaw 30.5 requires schools to educate student-athletes about banned drugs and the products that may contain them. See www.drugfreesport.com/rec for supplement answers.
Did you know? Student-athletes can lose eligibility if they take someone else’s ADHD medication? Student-Athletes should report all medications to the sports medicine staff to assure compliance with NCAA banned drugs and medical exception policies per Bylaw 31.2.3. and the NCAA Drug Testing Protocol.

Developing Leaders for Life The NCAA is a higher education association which aims to integrate intercollegiate athletics into higher education and enhance the overall student-athlete experience.
