  4. 2007 PHDSC Goals • Represent public health interests (local, state and federal agencies and research communities) in the standards development, harmonization and maintenance activitiesby participation in the standard development (SDOs), data content committees (DCCs), standard harmonization entities and other healthcare standardization-related efforts. • Promote interoperability of health-related data systems to meet the health data needs of public and private organizations, agencies and individuals • Educate clinical and public health professionals about standards and systems interoperability, and vendors and clinicians about public health

PHDSC Activities Represent public health interests • Standards Development Organizations and Data Content Committees: • Health Level Seven (HL7) • Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12 • National Uniform Billing Committee (NUBC) & • National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC) • Standard Harmonization Entities: • Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) • Integrated Health Enterprise (IHE), Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) • Healthcare Standardization-related Efforts: • National Committee for Vital and Health Statistics (NSVHC) • AHIC Population Health Work Group • Health Information Security and Privacy Collaboration (HISPC) • Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) • State Alliance for Health

PHDSC Activities Promote interoperability • Developing implementation guides for public health data standards: • Health Care Services Data Reporting Implementation Guide • Source of Payment Typology • Conducting R&D projects on interoperability of clinical Electronic Health Record systems and Public Health data systems (EHR-PH) for regional health information exchanges: • Pediatric EHR-PH System Interoperability Prototype, HIMSS, 2005 & AMIA 2005 • Developing a Vision for a Functional Requirements Standards for EHR-PH Systems: Case Study of NYC, AMIA Spring 2007
