  2. Purpose of today’s presentation • Outline the vision for Irwell City Park • Update you on progress and key priorities to May 2007 • Seek your commitment and support to make it happen • Enable you to start to influence the design process

What is Irwell City Park? • Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to revitalise one of NW’s key waterways • New urban park / leisure opportunities at the heart of Manchester City Region • Continuous walkway between The Quays and Peel Park - exciting and high quality public spaces • New pedestrian connections across the river - more, better lit bridges – better access for communities • Safe open spaces - events • Synonymous with innovation and inspirational design • 45 million investment

(cont) • Key to achieving the vision for The Quays, Central Salford and continued development of City Centre • A key linkage between cultural and media hub at The Quays and economic dynamism of City Centre • Fantastic opportunity to create a better quality of life for people living and working here – stronger, healthier more active communities • Unique opportunity to maximise development potential.

Progress so far • Bid to Big Lottery Fund Living Landmarks Programme – January 2006 • Assessment Visit – May 2006 • August 2006 – invitation to proceed to detailed planning phase - £250K development grant secured plus NWDA funding • Highly competitive phase – one of only 23 projects nationally to proceed • 31st May 2007 – deadline for submission of final lottery bid and business case • Your support will be crucial

Progress so far (cont) • International design competition launched – September 2006 – Broadway Malyan appointed • Project Management consultancy appointed - October 2006 – BURO4/Amion Consulting • Governance and management arrangements established • Recognition of importance of stakeholder engagement to successful outcome

Engaging key stakeholders • Need to raise awareness, seek active support and engagement • Lobbying at all levels • Consultation with local people – influence design – animating the riverside through events • Resolve land issues and secure consistency of development along riverside in line with vision – developers will play a key role • Deliver vital match funding - £20M • Develop long term management and maintenance regime

What happens next? • Feedback your input today to the design team • End January ’07 - Vision framework drafted • Consultation in February – local people, businesses, communities of interest • February 07 – Design brief agreed – communicated to everyone • February to April 07 - Design proposals and animation strategy developed and refined • Beginning May 07 – Public launch of final proposals • 31st May 07 – Submission of lottery application • June to Aug 07 – Lottery Assessment Visit • October 07 – Decision by Big Lottery Fund
