Frederic Remington (1861-1909), born in Canton, NY, was an artist known for his passion for the Wild West. A playful troublemaker with a fondness for sports, he attended Yale for art but felt unchallenged. After a transformative ride through Montana at age 19, he committed to documenting the vanishing Wild West. Remington’s works celebrated cowboys, Native Americans, and horses, capturing their essence through art and illustrations. He became a renowned illustrator and sculptor, creating 25 bronze sculptures, while forming friendships with notable figures like President Teddy Roosevelt.

At 19, left for montana & rode through the west • One night around a campfire, spoke with a wagon driver about the wild west changing • Wild West would be gone and replaced with people & buildings • Decided at that moment to record the Wild West before it disappeared
