  1. Tips on Moving with a Pet

  2. Moving can be a hectic time, especially when you’re moving with pets. Pets can be distracting and get in the way when you’re trying to pack and move things, but you also need to make proper arrangements for your pet’s move, as well.

  3. Most people, however, don’t know what arrangements or preparations they should make for their pets before a move. If you’re one of those people, check out the list below for tips on moving with your pet(s).

  4. Visit the Vet for a Checkup Taking your pet to the veterinarian should be at the top of your to-do list before moving. Visit the vet and get your pet’s medical records, vaccinations and medications. Additionally, ask your vet for a thorough checkup to ensure your pet doesn’t have any current health issues.

  5. If your pet has a pre-existing condition, ask about any precautions you should take during the move. For a long-distance move, ask your current vet for recommendations for new care providers.

  6. Arrange for Your Pet to Stay Somewhere Else Moving days can be stressful for both humans and their pets. All the movement and noise can be overwhelming to your pet, so arrange for them to stay in a kennel or with family and friends. Keeping them away during the move will be less stressful for you and the pet.

  7. They can have all the care and attention they require, and you can have less distraction while moving. That said, if you hire Edmonton movers, like Pro Service Moving, there will be a lot less that you need to personally tend to.

  8. Know the Bylaws and Ordinances for Pets in Your New Area Every community has its own bylaws and ordinances for pet ownership, so be sure to do some research before you move. Learn all the laws for pet ownership in your area. Some areas have restrictions on what pets you can own and how they should be cared for and housed.

  9. Certain restrictions could make moving to certain places impossible. For example, some communities actually don’t allow dogs that weigh more than 25 pounds.

  10. Update Your Pet’s Microchip Information Microchip IDs are the best way to identify and locate (if necessary) your pet. So, their microchip information should remain up-to-date. Before your move, update your pet’s address information. If your pet doesn’t have a microchip, getting one before you move could be beneficial.

  11. However, if you’re against the idea, then just update their crate and collar information. Getting ready to move? Give us a call and rest assured that your move is in the most capable hands.
