  2. Ephesians 4: 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

  3. 13Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:

  4. 14That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love,

  5. may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.

  6. 16From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supply, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, make increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

  7. Definition of Term • PERSONAL: The word simply mean SELF or INDIVIDUAL. 2. EDIFICATION: It is form from Greek word OIKODOME. The compound word OIKODOME means

  8. OIKO mean To Build DOME mean House Edification simply means 1. Development 2. Improvement 3. Up liftment

  9. OIKODOME simply mean Building a HOUSE The HOUSE is the cement of the Body together with the Soul and Spirit.

  10. PERSONAL EDIFICATION can now be define as the spiritual formation of the Soul; Development of the Soul.

  11. WHEN DOES EDIFICATION BEGIN IN THE LIFE OF AN INDIVIDUAL ?

  12. PURPOSE OF EDIFICATION 1.An eye opener to creation and fulfill of purpose.

  13. EXODUS 9: 1 “Then the Lord said unto Moses, go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus say the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me”.

  14. EXODUS 9:16 “And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to show in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth”.

  15. JOHN 17: 1-3 “These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy son, that thy son also may glorify thee:

  16. As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

  17. 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

  21. To be able to measure ones life without any spiritual senior assistance. • To be able to discern with the help of the comforter.

  22. OTHERS: • To be able to differentiate between SOUL, Spirit and Body, the purpose and function of each and their desire • To help build ones spiritual life • To help student on how to apply the scripture

  26. WHY PERSONAL EDIFICATION ?

  27. We are commanded by God Gen 17: 1 • It is an advise given to the church by our Lord Jesus Christ Matt. 5: 48 • Because of the corruptible state of the contemporary church Matt. 4:9

  28. To be able to live holy and for effective ministry. • Because is a pre-requisite to eternal life.

  29. There are false Christian leaders working with satanic strategy Eph 4:14 • To avoid being fed with heresy from the scripture E.G Books, Teaching , Preaching ,etc.

  30. To be able to fear God . Prov 3: 7 • Ability to know HIS mind Philipian 2:5 • For defensive approach. • Ministers get wounded out of ignorance .

  31. Many were corrupted and un consciously initiated in to cultism • To avoid idol worship. • PERFECTING OF THE SAINT • WORK OF THE MINISTRY • EDIFYING OF THE BODY OF CHRIST as mention above.

  32. IMPORTANCE OF EDIFICATION

  33. It broadens a Christian horizon: understanding. • It makes a Christian more mature : physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually Luke 2:52. • It makes one responsible: Ability to respond ( SOLOMON).

  34. It makes the call to missions easy: pastor, teacher, apostle . Evangelist , prophet and missionary . • It builds up the body of Christ and allow Unity and oneness despite the diversity in common.

  35. It makes the work of the flesh to cease and promotes the fruit of the spirit. • It makes forgiveness easy. • It exposes doctrinal teaching and allow rhema.

  36. WRONG MOTIVE OF EDIFICATION • EDIFICATION IS NOT FOR SELF GLORY. • EDIFICATION IS NOT FOR THE CHURCH GLORY. • IT IS NOT FOR PROOF ( PEOPLE). • IT IS NOT FOR NATION • But for personal discovery of God and improvement of ones spiritual life for HIM alone to be glorify.

  37. Research work: Identify the work of the flesh in the church , find the cause and suggest a way forward ( 10ppl/12pgs).

  38. SPIRITUAL MATURITY

  39. Spiritual MaturitySpiritual maturity is a process that begins when a person accepts Jesus Christ as Savior. He or she is born again of the Holy Spirit and then chooses to live in Christ.

  40. A Growing Seed

  41. GROWTH can be measure in two ways • Quality • Quantity The former can be ascertain through growth spiritually and of good quality output (Spiritual Fruit). The latter can be measure as in number of spiritual children, soul winning, convert and which must be viable.

  42. EVALUATE THIS GROWTH:” KUKUTE JESU”

  43. The Apostle Paul said that spiritual growth is an ongoing process. "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on

  44. to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on

  45. toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" Philippians 3:12-14. Even the Apostle Paul had not arrived, yet he continually pressed toward the prize.

  46. In order to get mature you must do the following; • 1.Make a choice to learn God's Word • 2. Allow God to renew your mind 3.Be obedient to what you learn.

  47. Causes of immaturity

  48. *Not genuinely Born Again • Not well grounded in the word of God. • Living a life of pretence. • Misconception of whom to follow after salvation.

  49. Inability to take ones ground as a Christian. • Poor development mentally, emotionally and spiritually. • Obsession with materialism.
